AIDS Fund supports HIV/AIDS education, prevention, and services in the Delaware Valley Region by raising dollars and increasing public awareness about the impact of HIV on our communities.  Currently, 29 partner organizations are receiving funding as a result of AIDS Fund’s activities to provide critical HIV prevention education and care services.

We accomplish our mission through a range of activities including:

  • AIDS Walk Philly - In 1987, volunteers from Philadelphia's lesbian and gay community center, Penguin Place, decided to organize a walk-a-thon to support area AIDS agencies and raise public awareness about the disease.
The Delaware Valley's first AIDS Walk raised $33,000.00.  Since then, thousands of fundraising walkers have gathered each year to participate in the Region's largest annual HIV/AIDS public awareness and fundraising event.  Over $12.6 million has been raised for HIV/AIDS public awareness, prevention and care services for people living with HIV disease.
AIDS Walk Philly is held annually on the third Sunday in October.
  • GayBINGO!  Certainly not your grandmother’s bingo! This monthly event is entering its tenth season and has gained national recognition as the result of being the subject of a WHYY documentary which aired on PBS stations throughout the country.
  • Black-Tie GayBINGO!  A more formal version of our monthly event, Black-Tie GayBINGO features a silent auction, dinner, dancing, and, of course, GayBINGO.
  • World AIDS Day - Each year on December 1, AIDS Fund holds an event to remember those we have lost to the AIDS epidemic, honor those living with HIV disease and raise awareness of the HIV/AIDS in our communities.
  • Workplace Giving Campaigns - Working in conjunction with other community funds and federations, AIDS Fund participates in the City of Philadelphia Employees Combined Campaign, the Federal Employees Combined Campaign, the University of Pennsylvania’s Penn’s Way Campaign, Drexel University’s Dragon Drive Campaign, and Temple University’s Temple Way Campaign.  AIDS Fund’s participation in these campaigns affords public awareness opportunities and provides the employees an easy way to contribute to the fight against HIV/AIDS through payroll deductions.

In addition, AIDS Fund produces a variety of smaller events and public awareness activities through out the year.

Critical to the success of AIDS Fund is our ability to mobilize thousands of volunteers annually to produce these events and to generate funds as participants in AIDS Walk Philly.  Since its founding, AIDS Fund has remained committed to the philosophy that by coming together, each individual can make a difference in the fight against HIV/AIDS in their community.  AIDS Fund volunteers and donors are valued for their compassion and their community response to the AIDS epidemic.
